Honestly, I’ve never really stepped into a dollar store until I started dating my boyfriend. Let me just say…this dude is fru-gal. FROO. GULL. It sounds like I’m making fun of him, but it’s actually out of respect *insert silly face here.* I finally met my match when it comes to being super cheap.
Anyways, between The Dollar Store and Vons…I’m not sure which he prefers, but he goes there most days. After tagging along with him a few times, I’ve come to realize that you can save SO MUCH MONEY just from The Dollar Store.
Here are some surprising things I’ve found at The Dollar Store that I’d usually be spending more buying at the usual grocery stores:
DID YOU KNOW that you can buy a dozen eggs at The Dollar Store? I’ve purchased them a few times already, and trust me, it’s the same. Just open the carton before you buy to check if none of the eggs are cracked.
YES. If you go to the right dollar store, you can get these bad boys for $1/bottle. I’m currently waiting for my store to stock up on these right now so that I can purchase about 20 bottles buahaha.
For the past few months, our dollar store has offered a 3 for $1 deal…which is seriously AMAZING. Keeps me super hydrated.
This is SUCH a good money saver. For real, yo! I’m used to paying at least $8 for a pack of Duracell batteries at Ralph’s, whereas at The Dollar Store…you can get batteries for…you guessed it. A frickin’ dollar omg.
1 GALLON SWEET TEA
Damn straight, I saw this at my local dollar store. So great. I think it was only for a limited time, but wow. This would normally go for about $6 at your local grocery store. Do yourself a favor and save yourself 5 bucks!
When I first moved into my apartment with no electricity, I immediately ran to my dollar store and got a flashlight (and batteries). If I had gone to Home Depot, that would have cost me $13 for their cheapest flashlight.
If you go through bread fairly quickly, you should definitely buy this. They have bagels, regular white bread, wheat bread, and English muffins (I think.)
The best deal I’ve found was 12 bags for $1. I tried searching in bulk online, and that the prices can’t seem to be beat.
FANCY WINE GLASSES:
If you look closely, you can find some pretty durable and pretty pretty wine glasses.
MARTINELLI’S SPARKING CIDER
BIG ASS JUICES
INSTANT CHAI TEA/COFFEES/COCOA
Unfortunately, that’s where my suggestions end. If you didn’t care about brand names for certain items (shampoos, detergent, cleaning sprays, dish soaps, toilet paper, cookies, feminine care, medicines) then by all means…go do all your shopping at The Dollar Store. I personally like to get the above (brand name) purchases, and I finish my shopping at either Vons or Ralphs. Don’t even get me started on the coupons you can get at Vons (I’ll save that for another post).
In the meantime, there are dollar stores, 99c stores, dollar trees, and discount stores everywhere. My favorite bargain place is JJ Bargain. You just need to open your eyes and see. If you go to one outside of the city, you may even be able to find better deals and nicer shit.
Trust me, your wallet will thank me.
